Asbestos Containig Products
It is one thing to know what asbestos is, and another to know what products asbestos was most used. Asbestos has been used in a wide variety of products due to its desirable properties such as fire resistance, durability, and insulating capabilities. Below is a list of different types of products that have historically contained asbestos. I will highlight and speak more on the most common asbestos we come across at Crystal Creek. This list is not exhaustive and does not include asbestos automotive products or aerospace products. Building Materials
- Insulation Materials: Every material list as an insulation is extremely common. Pipe insulation, Boiler insulation,Duct insulation, and Spray-applied insulation.
- Fireproofing and Fire-Resistant Products: Fireproof coating,Fire blankets, and Fire doors
- Flooring: Asbestos flooring products were very commonly used throughout multiple industries and used in a variety of building types. Vinyl floor tiles,Vinyl sheet flooring,and Adhesives for flooring
- Roofing Materials: Roofing shingles, Roofing felt, and Roof coatings
- Cement Products: Asbestos cement, commonly known as transite, has been used in many ways, but most commonly found as house siding, in soffits mostly at schools, as pipe drains, and as roof shingles and/or panels. Asbestos cement sheets, Asbestos cement pipes, and Asbestos cement roofing
- Plaster and Joint Compounds: asbestos is commonly found in drywall joint compound and spackling compounds. Wall plaster, Joint compound, and Spackling compounds
- Textured Paints and Coatings: Asbestos is commonly found in acoustic ceilings tiles and popcorn ceiling texture. Acoustic ceiling tiles, Popcorn ceiling texture: Popcorn ceiling is found commonly in single-family dwellings. These are not regulated in Oklahoma and doesn’t require a registered asbestos contractor to remove it.
- Drywall and Wallboard: Asbestos-containing drywall and Asbestos-backed wallboard

- Textiles: Asbestos cloth, Asbestos rope, and Asbestos tape
- Laboratory Equipment: Heat-resistant lab equipment
- Other Industrial Products: Chemical filters, Industrial adhesives, and Electrical insulation materials
- Water and Sewage Pipes: Asbestos cement pipes for water supply and sewage systems
The use of asbestos in many of these products has been banned or heavily restricted in many countries due to its health risks. However, older buildings and products may still contain asbestos, necessitating careful handling and professional abatement when renovation or demolition is planned.
